Color Matched Sinks and Shower Pans to Countertops

Fabricators, echoing their customer's requests, want kitchen and vanity sinks that truly match the countertops. Although aftermarket color matched vanity sinks are available, those vanity sinks never are truly color matched. The secret to manufacturing true color matched sinks to decks is really no secret. Both have to be produced at the same time. By doing so, the potential for a color shift from lot to lot of raw materials, varying environmental conditions, heat of catalyzation, and varying curing temperatures is eliminated. However, the mass manufacturing techniques of national solid surface companies, preclude them from offering color matched sinks. In fact, most of their white or beige sinks are made in a different manufacturing facility, usually outside the United States.

The aftermarket manufacturers are handicapped from the beginning of their manufacturing process. They start with material that is not color matched or sequentially numbered (at the factory for sheet-to-sheet color matching consistency) and may not be taken from the same lot as the countertop material their sink will be bonded to. Their material is thermal-formed by heating and stretching a flat sheet into a three dimensional bowl. This process alters the material's look as well as color. The heating shifts the color, and the stretching distorts the pattern of the material. Finally, a thermal-formed part has stresses, not seen in cast products, which may not affect color but does affect its useful life.

By casting sinks at the same time as sheet goods, Royal Stone®'s sinks perfectly match their countertop material. When bonded to the countertop the result appears to be a continuous surface installation with no visible seam or color shift.
